John 3:16 / Juan 3:16

This painting was created for a Sotheby's Sheldon Lurie's Art Against AIDS auction. The painting's title has two meanings: The first being the Bible's verse (John 3:16) and the second being the time that a soul called John died. Both suggest the loss of a son to his father. In this painting, this soul is in transition from matter to spirit. You can see the silhouette of what once was a virile body and at the same time its skeletal remains. In this painting the sky blue that radiates from the center of the head towards the heavens above represents the spirit's readiness and willingness to transition from this plane to a higher plateau.
