This piece is part of a series of women holding mirrors that originated with my piece called Reflections. Maria Victoria is one of The Three Marias (after surgery). The name "The Three Marias" comes from an old Cuban saying that described them in a not-so flattering way. Thus, in my paintings I portray The Three Marias having retaliated against the old saying by having corrective surgery and becoming three beautiful icons. It is also my way of protesting the lack of self-esteem in today's society.
