About the Artist

George RodezBorn in Manhattan, New York, on March 20, 1957, George Rodez spent his early years in Havana, Cuba, where he lived with his grandparents due to a family health situation. Reunited with his parents in Miami in 1961, he has since embraced Miami as his home base, while his work and travels have taken him to exhibitions around the globe.

A self-taught artist, Rodez is known for his compellingly diverse body of work, shaped by a commitment to artistic exploration rather than conventional expectation. He echoes Picasso’s sentiment: “The painting is stronger than me; it always gets me to do what it wants,” allowing each work to unfold its own story and purpose. This openness to transformation fuels Rodez’s creative process, enabling him to navigate distinct artistic series that reveal the multiplicity of his inner world.

The complexity of human experience, particularly his insights from witnessing his mother’s journey with mental health, profoundly informs Rodez’s art. Observing how each of her unique personas contributed to her identity, he similarly channels varied facets of his personality into each series. For Rodez, art is a path to explore and embrace the full spectrum of human emotion, as he believes a rich life is achieved through living authentically and feeling deeply.

Rodez’s early career as a mechanical engineer provided him with a disciplined approach, yet his passion for art, which sparked at age thirteen, led him to devote himself fully to painting by 1992. His work has since appeared in numerous galleries and museums nationally and internationally, including his participation in the prestigious Florence Biennale in 2005, with support from a Florida Division of Cultural Affairs Artist Enhancement grant. This opportunity sparked further exhibitions across Europe, in cities such as Amsterdam, Basel, and Barcelona, including a showcase at the Royal Artistic Circle of Barcelona.

Deeply committed to community involvement, Rodez regularly contributes artwork to charitable organizations, using his talents to raise funds and awareness for causes he believes in. Recognized by former U.S. Congresswoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, he was commended for his dedication to philanthropy through the arts. Rodez has been similarly acknowledged by Miami-Dade officials for his contributions, particularly in his work exploring Afro-Cuban heritage through exhibitions such as De Africa A Cuba, Raices De Un Pueblo and Cuba Es Así.

To date, over 150 organizations, including the American Red Cross, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, March of Dimes, and American Cancer Society, have benefited from Rodez’s contributions. Through his work and generosity, George Rodez continues to inspire audiences and enrich communities, embodying a vision of art that is as inclusive as it is profound.
