THE DIVERSE WORKS OF GEORGE RODEZ
November 5 – 26, 2011

George Rodez doesn’t always paint what people want or expect him to paint, but rather his paintings tell him what they want to be. He lives and paints by the words of Pablo Picasso:

“The painting is stronger than me;
It always gets me to do what it wants.”

“A painter is a man who paints what he sells.
An artist, however, is a man who sells what he paints.”

Rodez believes that transition and flexibility are necessary elements in order for an artist to grow and remove themselves from a position of stagnation. As a result, Rodez is currently working on nine different bodies of work. Come and view the diversity that is George Rodez. Allow the work to speak to you and say what it may. View it with an open mind. It is a visual journey that can touch on many levels of the subconscious.

RODEZart.com Gallery presents: “THE ORDER OF CHAOS,” a Vicente Dopico-Lerner, Daniel Garcia and George Rodez group exhibition, May 7 – 30, 2011.

In a world full of wars, natural disasters and uncertainties, it is refreshing to know that Chaos can sometimes also be a symbol of positivism and beauty. Three artists: Vicente Dopico-Lerner, Daniel Garcia and George Rodez come together to offer us just that through means of visual interpretation. With a sense of composition, form, enmeshed colors, straight and jagged lines, light and depth, these artists come together to bring order into the spoken word of Chaos. To view the work is to see the frenetic reality that life can sometimes be, but with the same token, it also offers us a sense of serenity and the beauty of knowing that life is exactly what it should be at all times.

“ALTERED STATES”

Portal fragments in a dimension where time is captured, distorted, venerated, violated and abused by the introduction of chemicals, concepts and theories in poetic movements to the tempo of a thought.

We journey into an ever-changing atmosphere where the eye and the hand integrate with the rhythm of the soul of the artist, orchestrating altered states for the gentle mind to move and ponder.

Please join us to welcome 4 artists: Carlos M. Cardenes, Roberto Catasus, George Rodez and Jose Tonito Rodriguez, who dare to cross the boundaries of photography as we know it, weaving and transforming it into spaces unknown, in the dimensions that we perceive in, and opening the door wide open for our imagination to wander.

“Caribe,” a restrospective exhibition of my Caribbean works; a search of my culture and roots. Cuba’s past comes alive in Caribe. The images come to life with bold, vivid colors like that of the stained glass windows of old Cuban architecture. I use subjects and images that would normally be used in folkloric Cuban paintings and give them a modern pop-ish twist. It is a sense of voyaging back to Cuba, transforming it, and making it fresh and new, as if never touched by 51 years of stagnation. The works act as a defibrillator bringing back to life the Cuba, Before Castro, and foretelling of the possibilities of a new beginning for the lost island of ruins.

Although born in Manhattan, New York, I have found a connection with my heritage and culture as a way of fusing a lifestyle that I never knew with the modern day existence of the Cuban-American experience in Miami. This work as a mixture of the old with the new, the Cuban and the American, the Caribbean and the African, all rolled up into one delicious palette of colors.

The exhibit opens on Saturday, May 1 during Coconut Grove Gallery Walk from 7 to 10 pm. The exhibit is on view through May 31. RODEZart.com Gallery is located at 3015 Grand Ave., Suite 237 in CocoWalk, and is open Sunday through Thursday from 11 am to 7 pm and Friday & Saturday from 11 am to 10 pm.

Art Basel and Masters’ Mystery Art Show (MMAS) at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Miami Beach, Fl. for the benefit of Florida International University’s Master’s in Fine Art program.

The Masters’ Mystery Art Show, a high profile exhibition and sale of original artist’s works to benefit the Florida International University’s MFA program, will take place at the Miami Beach Ritz Carlton concurrently with Art Basel Miami Beach. Works donated by established artists, including some international stars, will be shown along with famous architects, designers and celebrities. All works will have a fixed size (6”x 9”) and will be sold at a fixed and very affordable price — $50. The mystery is that while the names of the participants will be widely publicized, the artists will not be identified during the exhibition, and the signature on each work will only be revealed after the sale is completed. So the public has to “play detective.”

The Ritz-Carlton, South Beach. One Lincoln Road. Select from approximately 1,000 pieces of art work all priced at $50 benefiting the Florida International University Masters in Fine Arts program. The artist’s name will remain a mystery until after art piece is purchased. While viewing begins at Noon, the actual event will be from 7 – 10 p.m.
