These are Rodez’s earliest paintings on canvas, dating back to 1990. This series was used as a form of therapy, and it is from this series that the afro-Caribbean series was born and developed. The concept behind these paintings was to use his soul as a prism, as you would a glass prism, which refracts light and casts colors onto a surface of sorts and then the canvas becomes the vortex that receives the information coming through and from the prism. This work allows images to come from Rodez’s subconscious level and refract unto the canvas. In some cases, a particular experience may have triggered the images as well.
