Prisms of the Soul Series

Prisms of the Soul Series

Created in the early 1990s, the Prisms of the Soul Series represents Rodez’s earliest explorations on canvas and his first use of painting as personal therapy. These works channel the subconscious into vivid compositions that merge abstraction, symbolism, and emotional energy.

Guided by the metaphor of the soul as a prism — refracting inner experience into color and image — Rodez allowed memories and impressions to filter through this internal lens. What emerged were spontaneous visions, sometimes sparked by personal events, that projected onto the canvas as radiant forms.

Situated within Abstract Expressionism and Symbolic Abstraction, the series laid the foundation for what would later become Rodez’s signature Afro-Caribbean Series. Here, one finds the origins of his visual language: rhythm, color, and cultural resonance. Prisms of the Soul not only documents the artist’s beginnings but also affirms the transformative power of art as both reflection and release.
