Artist inspiration:
Carnival represents the type of celebration that used to be held annually in Cuba. It was very festive and colorful with a lot of song, dance, costumes, lanterns and floats. It represents a past that has since then disappeared in Cuba. This piece was also submitted for consideration for the Miami International Film Festival poster in 1996. Although not chosen, it has since become a very popular piece. In 1997, this piece received the National Fairs for Cuban Municipalities in exile award in the Impressionist category and is currently owned by well-known local and international artist, Gilda Sacasas.
