Artist inspiration:
This painting represents a personality that my mother (who suffers of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia) would adopt from time to time. It is a rich woman who is very powerful and independent. A woman who needs no one. This personality only serves to camouflage the true frail and vulnerable person that she really is due to low self-esteem. She would dress up in the most incredible get-ups (hats, gloves, canes, etc.), claiming to be a woman of high society. We, at the time, were very far from that fantasy. This pokes a little fun at the sometimes very difficult times that I endured as a child while living with a mentally ill parent.
