Rooster Dances to my Bongo Beat is symbolic of what used to be the country lifestyle in Cuba. It shows a relaxed, care-free attitude and a connection with life and its surroundings. The rooster responds to the bongo beat of the “guajiro” by flapping its wings to the rhythm of the beat. As the “guajiro” beats his bongos, drinks his rum, and smokes his cigar, not far away is the “malanga” plant reaching its way, bypassing the rum, for a puff of a Cuban cigar. It is my understanding that in Cuba today, some of the easiest items to obtain are alcohol and tobacco products. This, in my opinion is the regime’s way of maintaining the island is a state of numbness and addiction.
