Artist inspiration:
This piece is part of a collection I began in 2017 and which I call “The Fire Red Rooster” collection. 2017 was the year of the Rooster according to the ancient Chinese zodiac. But moreover, 1957, the year of my birth, was also the year of the Rooster, and both years belong to the Fire element based on the Chinese’s Five Elements. The alignment of both zodiac and element signs occurs every 60 years. Thus, people with the Chinese zodiac of Rooster born in 1957 are considered “Fire Rooster” and hence the name of the collection. Each piece in the original collection contains 24k gold leaf.  But moreover, in each piece I have immortalized my mother by incorporating one or more faux emeralds taken from one of her dresses.
