Artist inspiration:
This piece was inspired by a photograph taken by Juan Carlos Mirabal during his travels in Cuba, which he graciously shared with me. The photograph can be viewed herein as well. From the moment I laid eyes on his image, I felt an irresistible pull, a magnetic connection that sparked my creativity. It was as if the photograph whispered to me, urging me to translate its essence into a new form of art. After receiving Juan Carlos’s permission, I embarked on this creative journey and brought forth what I have titled “Un Guajiro En El Campo.”

In my artistic reinterpretation, I sought to transform some of the original elements captured in Juan Carlos’s photograph. My aim was to infuse the scene with a sense of peace and harmony, reminiscent of a bygone era. I wanted to evoke a time when the land was a sanctuary of innocence and abundance, untainted by the need for protection or vigilance against intruders. Through this piece, I aspired to create a visual narrative that celebrates the simplicity and purity of rural life, where nature and humanity coexist in a serene, unbroken bond.

The resulting artwork is a tapestry of colors and textures that invites viewers to step into a world where time stands still. By replacing certain elements with symbols of tranquility and prosperity, I hoped to capture the essence of a pastoral utopia. “Un Guajiro En El Campo” is not just a piece of art but a window into a dreamscape where the echoes of the past harmonize with the hopes for a peaceful future.

Poet Artistry:
You can also find an image herein of a poem titled “Yo Vengo (I Come),” written in Spanish by the poet known as “Marcelino, El Poeta Perdido (The Lost Poet)” before his passing in 2023. His family felt that “Un Guajiro En El Campo” captured the essence of this poem and of who Marcelino was as a person, a true guajiro.
