Artist inspiration:
The Elegant Rooster was painted as a commissioned piece for the owner of its counterpart, Presumptuous Hen (Gallina Presumida). The Elegant Rooster is portrayed to reflect a proud cock who is getting on in years performing a mating dance ritual as he passes by his target, Presumptuous Hen. He struts his stuff, ruffles his feathers, sticks out his chest, and looks back to see if she’s watching. Then, when he sees that she isn’t, and that she’s going about her flirtatious, hen-pecking ways without giving him a second thought, he goes to Plan B — seducing her with chivalry. This, all in the hopes of coupling this young chick and making her his bride before heading to the chopping block.
