Acrylic on Canvas, 72″ x 48″
This is one of fifteen pieces created specifically for another iteration of the Dreams Symptoms exhibit in Spain, at Galeria Paqui Delgado and at the Sant Sadurni Cathedral in Sant Sadurni, Spain in October and November 2009. The fifteen pieces were showcased at the Cathedral during their Cava Festival and we included a huge installation inside the Cathedral honoring Mother Earth and the fruit it bears to create these cavas and wines.
This painting, originally like many of the Dream Series paintings, 74″ x 53″ and likewise framed as a dream catcher, suffered an accident while en route to another exhibit in Spain. The painting endured a fall unto someone’s head causing it to tear. Not wanting to cast it aside but knowing it was damaged beyond repair to be a regular canvas, Rodez metamorphosed the piece into a canvas paper-like boat, taking it from 2-dimensional to a 3-dimensional work of art. Interestingly enough, the boat then became symbolic of the Dream Symptoms exhibitions throughout Spain for years to come, even being presented on the cover of the catalogues for the exhibits, with the catalogs having a paper-like boat Velcroed to the cover, as can be seen in one of the images herein.
You can also see an image of an installation with the boat as the center piece of the exhibit floating above Rodez at the Reial Cercle Artistic de Barcelona.
